Who We Are

Vikas Deepti is a registered charitable society and Vikas Bhavan is it’s office. From Vikas Bhavan rehabilitation activities are monitored.

Bargarh, one of the least developed district that has a population of 1, 34 millions residing in 1180 villages. There are 42,135 physically challenged persons residing in Bargarh District which is 3.31% to its total population. The district has segmented to12 Blocks and 248 Gram panchayats having geographical area of 5837 Sq.Kms and a population density of 231 per square Kms. The annual rainfall of the area is 1527 mm per year, ill distributed and erratic monsoon leading to low crop yields and poverty. Severe drought occurs occasionally in a cycle of five years. In this district nearly 82% of the people live in villages. Of this rural population nearly 80% are marginalized farmers and 15-20% is landless agricultural labourers. Most of the villages even the block headquarters have little access to public transport resulting in a lack of NGO and government development activities and services.

Understanding the gravity of the problem and the plight of the people VIKAS DEEPTI initiated a comprehensive analysis of the situation of the people and after a series of interaction with its network members and with the support organizations seriously concentrate only to work with the physically and socially challenged people especially with the children of the district.

What We Do

Community Based Rehabilitation

The CBR programmes began in the villages in 2005 due to the number of PWD’s and CWD’s not being attended owing to obvious reasons for shortage of accommodation & crunch of funds at VikasDeepti. However, putting all the needy into IBR at VikasDeepti was impossible. Hence two blocks of Bargarh- Bheden Block consisting of 46 GPs (Gram Panchayats) were covered. In the year 2012 Barpali was added and in 2014 some GPs of Attabira are added.

Institution Based Rehabilitation

Vikas Deepti is an institution for the rehabilitation of the differently abled children between the age of 5 and 14 years. It commenced its function from 29th June 1995. It has got 5 dormitories with the necessary beds, attached toilets and bathrooms, large corridors, dining space, TV room, study facilities, playground and play articles both outdoor and indoor etc.

Leprosy Care

Leprosy eradication and the care of the children through the rehabilitation is the programme Vikas Deepti has chosen for the persons affected with leprosy around Bargarh. In the last 18 years it has provided houses, medicines, schooling, nutrition, and self-sufficiency programmes to almost 500 inmates in four colonies

JOHN KUJUR

I am John Kujur and I joined Vikas Deepti in 1998 when I was only 5 years old. I stayed in Vikas Deepti for 10 years (1998-2008) . During this period,the institution immensely contributed to the improvement in my health condition and academic career. I contracted polio in my childhood and my legs were paralysed. It disabled my legs and made me crawl like kids.
